Franchise 2010
June 18th, 2010Bossing
June 17th, 2010My previous column was about Nelson Mandela uniting his country through a Rugby team. The movie “Invictus”, for those who have not seen it yet, is a must-see, especially for our new political leaders today.
South Africa is now host to the Football World Cup, a very prestigious tournament that has the entire globe watching. It is such a beautiful country in terms of natural resources. Mandela’s challenge was to unite a country that was always controlled by system of racial segregation. The black Africans, who used to be at the bottom, are now the boss of the country.

Are we ready to be great?
June 10th, 2010For the next few weeks, I will be asking some of our Angelpreneurs — Francis Kong, Josiah Go, Ping Sotto, Pax Lapid, Ardy Roberto, Henry Tenedero, Andy Ferreria, and Anthony Pangilinan, — on “How can we be the best that we could be?”, “What is success?”, and “What do we mean by being great?”.
When I travel, I normally catch up on the movies I missed. I was able to watch a very interesting and inspiring movie entitled “Invictus”. I highly recommend this to all our newly elected political leaders.

Go Negosyo’s Biggest Negosem: SOCSKSARGEN!
June 8th, 2010The hunger for negosyo knowhow in the SOCSKSARGEN Region was evident as Go Negosyo received its largest crowd yet for the series of NegoSems (Negosyo Seminars) with the Department of Trade and Industry. What was targeted to have 500 participants far exceeded expectations as over 1,200 individuals made their way to the KCC Convention Center at the KCC Mall of GenSan last May 25 to attend the seminar.
To credit for the astounding turnout is the Regional Director for DTI Region 12 Ibrahim Guiamadel and Assistant Regional Director Dorecita Delima, who led their dynamic team in promoting and mounting the NegoSem. Even as the list of confirmed and walk-in participants grew, they ably remedied logistical concerns and were very quick to accommodate individuals who wanted to grab the opportunity to learn about starting a business.

Youthpreneurs
June 7th, 2010As school season approaches, I decided to feature three young entrepreneurs for this Tagumpay column.
I am a parent with two of my children in college. One is about to finish. I am glad that many schools have started to integrate entrepreneurship into the business management programs and others school programs. Even in high school, the Department of Education has been encouraging entrepreneurship subjects. DepEd have also been encouraging students to participate in many of our Go Negosyo events all over the country.
The level of awareness of being an entrepreneur as an alternative to being employed has increased since our advocacy started. Our books continue to be bestsellers, which are admired by many young people who want to be entrepreneurs.

The economy should be our focus
June 3rd, 2010A couple of days ago, I got an email from a friend. It was a forwarded blog entitled “The Challenge of a Hundred Days: Believing that Filipinos can End Poverty and Corruption in the Philippines” by Gawad Kalinga (GK) Founder and Champion Tony Meloto.
Tony is not only a strong supporter of Go Negosyo; he is also a good friend of mine. I have come to know Tony in the early days, as he started his advocacy of creating homes for the homeless. He is an inspiration when I was starting Go Negosyo together with other like-minded entrepreneur-advocates. Our efforts to provide ‘kabuhayan’ complement what GK is doing on ‘kabahayan’ and value formation.

A Nation to be Great
May 27th, 2010As our Independence Day is approaching this June, Noynoy would also soon be officially proclaimed as the new president.
It was in 1986 when the People Power Revolution brought Tita Cory to presidency, after more than 20 years of dictatorship. The people of the Philippines expected big changes to happen. While our level of confidence returned at unprecedented levels, it was not easy sailing for the Cory government.

Grandpreneurs
May 24th, 2010For the past four years, I have had the privilege of meeting a number of genuinely inspiring entrepreneurs. While every entrepreneur has as different success story to tell, each story has a different learning experience and a distinct inspirational side to it.
The stories of Nanay Socorro Ramos, Dr. Helena Benitez, and Mrs. Esther Vibal are inspirational and moving. At an accomplished, experienced and thriving age, they maintain the right attitude towards life and they ensure that the family they have continues their legacy. Their efforts are geared towards helping communities.
