Reflections

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

Holy week seems to have started early. As I attended Palm Sunday mass, I noticed that what normally is a full attendance in our village, this Sunday’s mass was about 70 percent full. The priest and lay ministers had their dinner early having to eat the remaining host not given out.

We’re headed to the beach but my parents decided to spend quiet time at their place in Tagaytay and at home, away from all the fun and distractions that happen when you are on the beach. On our end, my wife is quite strict about Good Friday: we’ll all have to fast. As the priest noted, Catholics have to fast only twice a year, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, while the Muslims fast for 45 days. So it’s not asking much of Catholics to fast on these two days, and if we don’t comply, it’s a mortal sin, with the exceptions of course of those who are sick and elderly. (more…)

Wonder Women

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

This June, it will be seven years since the Go Negosyo advocacy started. For four years now, we have been holding the Women Entrepreneurship Summit, and without fail, it always has the highest attendance among our summits, caravans and various events. I love working with women since they are so committed. There are so many of them, and you must have seen some of the most successful women in our ads and press releases over the past weeks.

It was my first time to meet Sara Soliven de Guzman, who represented Philippine Star as a major sponsor for the Women STARpreneurs. Sara is the daughter of Max Soliven, and a columnist of Star and an entrepreneur herself. Rosalind Wee, a Go Negosyo trustee and very successful entrepreneur, who will also be featured in our TV show this Saturday, helped in the selection of Women STARpreneurs and stayed practically the whole day helping out. She and Echostore founder Chit Juan were the judges for this year’s STARpreneurs. (more…)

Go Negosyo in 2011

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Go Negosyo has wrapped up probably one of its busiest years ever. What an achievement the year 2011 was. We have never seen our calendar so packed with events – from provincial caravans, to collaborative seminars, to summits and other events, large and small, because of our affiliations with numerous organizations.

We started and ended 2011 providing Negosems year-round, collaborating with our Go Negosyo entrepreneurs and various institutions. To truly be able to educate as many aspiring entrepreneurs as we can, we have made these Negosems a staple throughout the year by hosting one every other month in Metro Manila, some of them held here at our headquarters at RFM, some in other venues around the metro.  Go Negosyo has also partnered with countless organizations, offering our Negosems in their events. To name some, we have collaborated with the DTI CITEM, Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Cebu Business Month, DTI-BSMED for MSME Week, DILG, AFFI for its 10th Filipino Franchise Show, Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Mandaue Business Month, PFA’s Franchise Asia 2011, International Youth Day, Multiply.com, Orchard Property Marketing Corporation (OPMC), and many more.

WOMEN NEGOSYO SUMMIT DRAWS BIGGEST CROWD

A CELEBRATION of success. This was the order of the day as thousands trooped and gathered for the biggest entrepreneurship event of the year.

Despite the summer heat, more than 20,000 aspiring entrepreneurs, enablers, students and mentors gathered at the recently concluded Women Entrepreneurship Summit held at the World Trade Center early this week.

The summit was part of the highlights of the celebration of the National Women’s Month. Aptly themed, “Babae, Tagumpay Ka ng Bayan!,” the event was a result of collaboration and partnership of Go Negosyo and the Philippine Commission on Women among with other government agencies and private sector partners.

Inspiring Davaeno Negosyantes

Monday, December 7th, 2009

At the age of eight, Myrna Padilla would dive for a minute or two at the depths of 10 to 15 feet, gathering shellfish and seaweed beneath corals. Whatever sum she earned in selling what she collected, she shares with her mother and saves a little for paper and pencil for school. Hard work and sacrifice are words that are not new to Myrna, who was born to a fisherman father and a housewife mother and was the eldest of the six children. She also worked as a domestic helper overseas for 15 years, until she had to undergo a throat and thyroid surgery. Myrna decided to come back home to the Philippines to have her surgery. She also settled to stay home for good. Then, Myrna started her own business. Today, she is recognized as the Founder and President of Mynd Consulting and Management Services, a major player in the BPO industry in Mindanao.

Myrna is one of the nine small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) who will be recognized at the GO NEGOSYO SA DAVAO CARAVAN on Dec. 4, 2009 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Convention Hall, Quirino Ave., Davao City.
