WOMEN NEGOSYO SUMMIT DRAWS BIGGEST CROWD

A CELEBRATION of success. This was the order of the day as thousands trooped and gathered for the biggest entrepreneurship event of the year.

Despite the summer heat, more than 20,000 aspiring entrepreneurs, enablers, students and mentors gathered at the recently concluded Women Entrepreneurship Summit held at the World Trade Center early this week.

The summit was part of the highlights of the celebration of the National Women’s Month. Aptly themed, “Babae, Tagumpay Ka ng Bayan!,” the event was a result of collaboration and partnership of Go Negosyo and the Philippine Commission on Women among with other government agencies and private sector partners.

One of the highlights of the event was the tribute to inspiring women who have contributed immensely in various fields such as arts and music, literature, mass media, education, environment, and entrepreneurship.

Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo led the awarding and recognition of the Women of the Year Awards and the 100 Inspiring Small Entrepreneurs. The awardees are Leonarda Camacho, head of the Metro of Manila Linis Ganda; Pilita Corrales, singer/ entrepreneur; Regina Paz Lopez, managing director of ABS-CBN Foundation; Maria Cristina Medina, English teacher in Laguna Resettlement Community School; Solita Monsod, professorial lecturer in University of the Philippines School of Economics; Marixi Prieto, chairperson of Philippine Daily Inquirer; Esther Vibal, president of Vibal Publishing House Inc.; Linda Legaspi, CEO, Marylindbert International; and Rosalind Wee, President of Philippine Federation of Local Councils of Women.

Joey Concepcion (Go Negosyo) and Myrna Yao (Philippine Commission on Women) said the event was aimed at “recognizing the pivotal role of the micro entrepreneurs and underlining the important role of the women sector in promoting empowerment through entrepreneurship”.

“This is one historic event. The Filipino woman as an entrepreneur have proven that no matter the obstacles, as long as one has the will and the passion to succeed, we can nip poverty in the bud by taking actions and taking control of our destiny,” Joey Concepcion opined.

For her part, Myrna Yao said, “the Filipino women have re-defined entrepreneurship with their sense of sacrifice and the ability to nurture life with hard work, commitment and passion.”

The Summit also offered a wide array of business ideas and opportunities, business seminars and lectures, product exhibits and business tips to guide aspiring entrepreneurs in their journey towards success. Furthermore, the event also marked the launching of Go Negosyo’s latest business book titled, 100 Inspiring Stories of Small Entrepreneurs “Tagumpay Mula Sa Kahirapan”. The book features inspiring stories of small entrepreneurs who choose “to rise above poverty” through entrepreneurship. From humble beginnings to simple life success, these small entrepreneurs shared the most important turning point in their lives in a heart-warming tell-all narrative that will surely inspire and move anyone into taking charge of one’s destiny.

The “Tagumpay Mula Sa Kahirapan” book is a result of extensive research and collaboration among the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Landbank, National Livelihood Development Corporation (NLDC), Citi Group, and the Department of Agriculture (DA).
