This event is part of the company’s global drive aimed at giving back to local communities and instilling the spirit of volunteerism among employees. This year, among 60 underprivileged public elementary students from Quezon City were the beneficiaries of the DHL-Teach for the Philippines environmental awareness workshop. Additionally, various activities and discussions on reducing, recycling, and segregating waste were conducted. Fundraising projects such as replacing coffee with water in vending machines in DHL offices, food and clothing bazaars, and a benefit concert were held. The proceeds were donated to charities. A blood donation drive, in partnership with Philippine Red Cross, was also supported by employees and their family members.

“For the past five years, we have been incorporating a sense of social ownership among all of our employees and contributing to the sustainability of the communities through our programs. Though these Global Volunteer Day activities that promote social responsibility, we have ignited a spirit of volunteerism and a sense of fulfillment not only for our employees but also to our customers,” shared Nurhayati Abdullah, Country Manager, DHL Express Philippines.

About Global Volunteer Day

Introduced in Asia Pacific in 2008, Volunteer Day soon expanded into the Americas, Middle East, Africa and Europe and continues to build on its success by involving more employees than ever before. Now a global, Group-wide program, the initiative was rolled out as a year-long program in 2013. On an annual basis, tens of thousands of colleagues at Deutsche Post DHL Group participate in these Global Volunteer Day (GVD) activities, helping out communities in which they live and work. This number has been steadily growing and in 2015, over 110,000 employees from around the world devoted 260,000 hours to GVD related activities.

As part of GVD 2016, DPDHL Group offices around the world are participating in a variety of community projects in support of various local causes. All Global Volunteer Day activities contribute to the Group’s three corporate responsibility focus areas: GoGreen (protecting the environment), GoHelp (providing skill-based help to people in need) and GoTeach (improving educational opportunity and employability).
