Let’s Go Negosyo!

From experience, I know that it can be a real struggle for a person to reach his dreams. He must be able to learn how to spot opportunities, take risks, and withstand all obstacles that will come with each decision that is made. And this cycle does not stop even if the business has already been established. But even if the journey towards success is hard, it is never a hard road to take if you love what you are doing. You must be passionate about success—that if you would like to succeed, you must first want it. That is why together with a number of successful entrepreneurs, I founded an advocacy that will reach out and motivate Filipinos to grab the chance of freeing themselves from misery and improve their lives, one negosyo at a time. A Flawless Difference

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

People often ask what is the secret to success, and one of the answers is to find what your passion is. Fortunately for some, they have known what they want in life at an early age. I know a lot of entrepreneurs who have discovered their passion while they were still kids and have sustained it as they grow up. The fact that they love what they are doing has been their fuel to achieve their dreams and be what they want to be.

Going through the entrepreneurship path is not easy. There will surely be problems that can discourage you. But if an aspiring negosyante is driven and he loves his craft, these problems will turn into opportunities for him to grow. This will be their difference from other entrepreneurs, whose attitude is not as positive. (more…)

The Learning

Thursday, August 16th, 2012

For the longest time, Go Negosyo has been inspiring Filipinos to move and work their way out of poverty. We have been adapting different ways to equip our countrymen with the entrepreneurial know-how, such as holding seminars and summits, publishing books of inspiring stories and on key entrepreneurial concepts and strategies, and even featuring these learning principles and ideas on TV, radio and print, through our media partners GMA News TV and DZRH/Radyo Natin and THE PHILIPPINE STAR. But before an aspiring negosyante could proceed, he must first instill a strong passion inside him. Without passion, he or she will be weak in facing obstacles that will surely come his or her way. And this fact is not limited only in doing business. A person who is passionate on doing what he loves best in life will surely attain success.

Passion has been the moving force behind the acclaimed filmmaker Ramona Diaz in doing documentaries. Ramona, who was born here in the Philippines but is currently based in Baltimore, is the director behind “Imelda”, which showed a different side of the former first lady Imelda Marcos, and “Don’t Stop Believing”, a film about the first year of Arnel Pineda as the frontman of the band Journey. Her love for storytelling prompted her to take up filmmaking as her career. It is not as easy as it seems, because Ramona has to deal with challenges such as getting support to fund her films. But with passion, Ramona believes that any aspiring filmmaker can overcome challenges and succeed. (more…)

Now, It’s Your Time!

Monday, August 13th, 2012

In my last column, I introduced this year’s finalists for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines. Thirty young men and women were able to pass the rigorous screening processes of RFM Foundation, which aims to cultivate a new breed of a young bayanI—someone who serves as a role model of academic excellence, exemplary leadership, good moral values, and socio-civic consciousness. This year’s TOSP winners were awarded last August 2, and PNoy personally congratulated them and handed their trophies.

In his short speech, PNoy said that the TOSP finalists and winners are blessed than most of us, because they have the capacity to understand things better. They are also gifted with an opportunity to serve their fellowmen, which is what each of them should cherish. And I could not agree with PNoy more: that those who have more in life should be able to share with those who were not as fortunate. These people, young as they are, have already led inspiring lives. It is my honor to share their stories, because despite the changing times, we can still count on our youth to be the source of hope of our fatherland. Now, it’s their time to act and move this country forward. (more…)

Go Negosyo Visits ARMM

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

The Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao remains to be one of the regions with the least access to education and means to poverty reduction. That is why Go Negosyo took the opportunity to hold a special Negosem for the members of the ARMM community.

Under the initiative of DTI-ARMM Regional Secretary Marites K. Maguindra, a special Negosem was held on July 18 at the Shariff Kabunsuan Complex as part of the celebration of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development (MSMED) Month. It gathered local entrepreneurs, heads of government offices and staff, community leaders, teachers and students. The whole-day event covered basic business principles such as having a positive mindset, spotting and developing business opportunities by Carlo Calimon and Victor Madlangbayan.

Such was the interest of the participants that entrepreneurs from the audience shared their personal challenges and difficulties to inspire and encourage others to put-up their own business. Even in the presence of competitors, there was a friendly sharing of ideas and strategies. There seemed to be a shared duty to contribute to the region’s local economy.

Based on a study done by DTI –ARMM, the region’s businesses are primarily on food, agriculture and fisheries. They are mainly micro to small scale and are family-run. Majority obtain materials and sell products within the province and intend to expand their businesses but do not have the necessary support mechanisms.

Even with these challenges, the leadership, dedication and commitment of DTI –ARMM and the people’s hardwork, economic development is highly achievable. And Go Negosyo will help in whatever way it can.

Go Negosyo YES Caravan to Start Rolling in Quezon, Pangasinan

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

Following the overwhelming success of previous years’ Youth Entrepreneurship Summits, which inspired more than 18,000 aspiring and existing small entrepreneurs, now is definitely the time to bring it to key cities and provinces in the country to reach out to other Filipino youth outside Metro Manila. The Youth Entrepreneurship Summit (YES) Caravan 2012 will gather together the entrepreneurs of tomorrow, as we invite the youth from different high schools and colleges, to reinforce an enterprising spirit in them and to empower them with the relevant entrepreneurship tools. We would also welcome out-of-school youth, young professional and even school administrators to take part in this event.

The whole-day event will feature some of today’s young and other successful entrepreneurs, who will be lending their knowledge in the plenary sessions. We have also lined up some of the most inspirational and motivational speakers to truly spark an interest among the youth to develop a positive mindset and venture into pagnenegosyo.

We have calendared the YES Caravan in the third and fourth quarter of the year to cover all the three major island groups of the Philippines: Luzon (Pangasinan & Quezon Province), Visayas (Cebu), and Mindanao (CDO). As a fitting culmination, the 5th Go Negosyo Youth Entrepreneurship Summit – that will focus on creativity and technology – will happen in Metro Manila on November. Otherwise called us the Youth Technopreneurship Summit, it shall focus on plenary discussions and breakout sessions on the importance of maximizing the social media, technology tools and the creative industry in starting and running a business.

The Go Negosyo YES Caravan 2012 is scheduled to happen in the following areas:

SOUTH LUZON : August 24, South Luzon State University
NORTH LUZON : August 31, University of Pangasinan – PHINMA
VISAYAS : September 21, Sacred Heart College Alumni Association
MINDANAO : October 4, Cagayan de Oro College – PHINMA

Should you or your school or organization be interested in sending delegates to this much anticipated youth entrepreneurship empowerment event, you may get in touch with Go Negosyo through Mr. Rose Peralta or Mr. John Paul Uminga at (02) 6379229. Since there are limited slots available, attendees will be required to pre-register by calling Go Negosyo.

We are also still looking for possible school partners or local government units who could co-present a YES caravan in the other areas of the country. The partner institutions shall take care of the venue, logistics, invitation to and confirmation of attendees, speakers’ honorarium, transportation and accommodation. Express your intent by sending an e-mail to
