Mr. President

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

First of all, let me congratulate you for an excellent SONA address that was done in the utmost simplicity, and that relates to the many Filipinos who are still fighting poverty. This was for millions of Filipinos to see, hear, and most importantly, understand your real vision of change, which is the true underlying message of your speech.

Last year, you set a very simple example of a President not using the “wang-wang”. Many took it literally as we really saw the drastic change when we no longer hear such noise on the streets. That noise somehow depicted how authority was abused by many through the years. In your recent SONA, we realized that the wang-wang you were trying to eliminate also refers to the wang-wang mindset and system. Stopping the wang-wang system is an excellent symbol of a genuine change that you want for this country. It is a powerful message of change we all need to have. (more…)

The future of our nation lies in the hands of our children, and we as parents have great responsibility in raising our children well. Our Go Negosyo 8 Simple Secrets to Raising Entrepreneurs has hit the bestsellers list at National Bookstore, and this is because the book is more than just what it says on its cover. At face value, the book seems to be all about how to raise our kids to become negosyantes in the future. But as many readers have already discovered, the book is also a unique and modern guide to parenting. It offers a different take on how to rear our children.

In the book, author Mrs. Mary Joy Canon-Abaquin, Ed.M., who is also an award-winning educator, entrepreneur and Go Negosyo Angelpreneur, discusses the secrets on how to harness the inherent talents and skills of our children so that they can grow to be successful individuals, whether in negosyo or in other fields. Bukidnon Entrepreneurs

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Go Negosyo, along with the MSMED Council, has just recently celebrated the SME Development Week at the Philippine Trade Training Center in Manila. The week-long celebrations, spearheaded by the DTI-MSMED, happens every second week of July each year. And for 2011, the highlight of the nationwide event was the SME Summit last July 7th— themed “Pinoy SME: Business Tayo!”

DTI Secretary Gregory Domingo, who is also the chairman of the MSMED Council, gave an overview of the importance of SME development in country, while Usec. Merly Cruz of the DTI Regional Operations Group presented the SME Development Plan for 2011-2016. There was also a forum hosted by Go Negosyo that was joined in by yours truly and by Go Negosyo advocate Prudencio Garcia, the CEO of Mekeni Foods. One of the highlights of the summit was the presentation of the SME Pledge Book to Sec. Greg. As Vice-Chairman of the MSMED Council, it was a privilege for me to handover the testament of our commitment and support to foster a nurturing environment for SME growth nationwide. (more…)

MSMEs Need Support

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

For the past six years, Go Negosyo has been partnering with DTI in empowering the micro, small and medium entrepreneurs. This year, our partnership with DTI started with a joint effort to conduct the DTI-Go Negosyo SME Caravans, which have begun since April, starting it off in Bukidnon. We have visited so many provinces around the country, about 10 areas to date as we finished Dumaguete the other day. This year, we targeted at least 15, one province per region, reaching even more remote places such as Dipolog, Mati (Davao), Tuguegarao, and Antique. Last year, together with DTI, we visited 20 provinces including major cities as Cebu, CDO, Dagupan, and Baguio that benefited 14,000 attendees. This year’s provincial caravans with DTI will continue through August.

During the caravans, the DTI handles the special topics on food safety, export procedures and other skills training, while we focus on the inspirational aspect and key applied concepts on how to start and grow a negosyo. We always bring with us our Angelpreneurs and Go Negosyo entreps to share their success stories and to give hope to aspiring and small entreps. They share their learnings, as well, to guide and mentor the SMEs. Also, through the lively lectures of our Angelpreneurs, the SMEs get to learn tried-and-tested negosyo principles to take their business to the next level. (more…)

Go Negosyo recognized for philanthropy

Monday, July 4th, 2011

Each year, as Go Negosyo becomes older and as we reach out to different provinces all-over the country, I cannot help but be amazed by the blessings that we have been receiving. For almost six years now, Go Negosyo was able to empower and enlighten Filipinos even in faraway provinces because of the community of advocates, entrepreneurs and mentors who have been keeping the entrepreneurship advocacy alive. Because of them, we wouldn’t be able to touch as many lives as we have now. And now, their efforts have put us in Forbes’ list of 48 Philanthropists of the Year.

In celebration of Go Negosyo’s 6th year anniversary, we hosted an evening of “Pasasalamat” for our entrep advocates, Angelpreneurs and partners who have been helping spread the advocacy. And despite the rains from typhoon Falcon, we are very happy that many have made it to the celebration. I took the opportunity to thank and honor them not only for sharing their time and knowledge, but also for their financial support that have allowed us to reach out to more Filipinos.

Go Negosyo’s True Philanthropists

Friday, July 1st, 2011

Last Thursday, close to 400 entrepreneurs and partners confirmed attendance to our Pasasalamat affair. It’s an annual event that we do to thank the Go Negosyo community, since so many of them take time out of their busy schedule to attend many of Go Negosyo’s activities, providing support, training and mentorship.

We expected it to rain that day as we learned from (a good website to monitor the weather). But still, to our surprise, the rainband was so thick and caused a heavy downpour in Luzon, just as our gathering was about to start, resulting in flash floods and major traffic jams. So many entreps got stranded, and they informed us that they couldn’t make it. We replied through SMS that we definitely understand and their safety was much more important.
