A Night of Pasasalamat

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

It’s been almost six years since we started the Go Negosyo journey. Having come this far, we cannot help but look back at how it all started, and, most of all, be reminded of the people who helped us get to where the Go Negosyo advocacy is today.

This is why tonight will be a night of Pasasalamat, to honor the people who have helped countless Filipinos fight poverty through self-development and entrepreneurship education – in other words, by having a negosyo mindset. Tonight, we will gather together our Trustees, Angelpreneurs, entrepreneurs, partners, sponsors and friends, who have always been part of Go Negosyo in helping others succeed in life. Our advocacy would have never become a reality if not for them.

Our Fathers in Negosyo

Monday, June 20th, 2011

This Father’s Day, like in the past, is a time that we honor our father’s role as head of the family. I am a father myself to five children; and my father, Joecon, is father to eight children and 29 grandchildren. In celebration of Father’s Day, it is but fitting that we share the stories of these four fathers as told by their children who pay tribute to them to reflect on the roles of our fathers and our roles as children.

Let’s take a look at the inspiring stories of these men whose determination, hard work, and courage have not only given their families a better future and a comfortable life, but have also provided livelihood to others so that they, too, can have a better quality of life. Let me share with you some of the successful and inspiring fathers in negosyo… (more…)

Proud To Be Green

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Today, De La Salle turns 100 years old. That’s pretty long, especially for a school many would think is located only in the Philippines. And on this day, we not only celebrate the 100th anniversary of La Salle; we also honor the La Salle brothers who came to the Philippines to teach us Christian values.

The La Salle brothers’ mission is to educate, and they’ve done a good job in doing so – especially the brothers during my time in school, whom I’ll never forget. They’re one of the reasons many alumni have come this far in their lives – achieving success in business, and more so, having a happy family and a fulfilled life, because the La Salle brothers have helped rear our spiritual life towards the right direction. Brothers Dizon, Franco, and the late Brothers Donato and Andrew – they have inspired me to become what I am today. (more…)

Having Fun in Negosyo

Monday, June 13th, 2011

One of the biggest challenges of Go Negosyo is to change the mindset of Filipinos towards entrepreneurship. Many are still not convinced that venturing into negosyo can truly help in uplifting their quality of life. Others are hopeful, but they have no idea what negosyo to start. There are also those who are intimidated by the misconceptions that running a negosyo is all about crunching numbers or that only those who have a degree in business will succeed as an entrepreneur.

But most of us who are entrepreneurs know this is not true. Truth is, anyone who has a dream of moving up in life, has ideas and is willing to work hard can be a successful entrepreneur—regardless of status in life, age or even educational background. Let me share with you more stories of successful Filipino entrepreneurs to inspire you to get into negosyo and to prove that life as an entrepreneur can also be exciting and fun.

Making memories

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Our Baltic Cruise ended with a surprise from my dad, who has been complaining of chest pains since the early morning. Just as we were about to disembark the ship in Stockholm, we all rushed him to the medical center of the ship. Thankfully, the medical center of the ship is quite equipped. He passes the ECG test, but the doctor recommended more tests and confinement to a hospital, so my dad got into an ambulance, which was already waiting on the shipside.

All of a sudden, our phones start to buzz with texts from different family members and friends. They were asking how my father is, if he had a heart attack, and if he’s being rushed to the hospital for an angiogram. Word gets around fast among Filipinos as most love to share news, which sometimes evolves into tsismis. But we are all just glad that he is okay and that he passed all the tests he underwent. It could just have been caused by the endless tours and food he had. (more…)
