Life is moving so fast. And, just before you know it, Holy Week has just gone by. As I look at my parents and children, I am reminded that we are all indeed aging very fast.

While the beach allowed us to commune with nature and reflect during the Holy Week, the presence of 30 kids in our compound in Fuego made it a bit more challenging, but definitely full of priceless moments as we had great family bonding. (more…)

Supporting the Go Negosyo Cause

Monday, April 25th, 2011

For an advocacy like Go Negosyo, partnerships with corporations go a long, long way. Inspiring hundreds of thousands of Filipinos all throughout the country would not have been possible without the sustained support of our partners. They are the heroes who share our dream of empowering Filipinos and of building an entrepreneurial nation. They are taking the journey with us to make sure our dream of a better life for those who have less in life becomes a reality.

A champion of the Go Negosyo advocacy is PLDT SME Nation, led by PLDT Senior Vice President Eric Alberto and PLDT Vice President Kat Luna-Abelarde. Last time, I shared with you the inspiring heroes of the Bossing Ako Campaign, a joint project of Go Negosyo and PLDT SME Nation. It’s just one of the many projects we have collaborated on to further encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to find success in negosyo. (more…)

Being holy

Summer is finally here. This year’s summer is even delayed, as last year’s started early. Last year, February was already hot. Our sales in Carrier air conditioning and Selecta ice cream definitely benefitted from that. With El Nino last year, we also saw hydroelectric power companies having great difficulty in making sure power was continuously supplied, especially in Mindanao.

We could feel the heat already as we move around the country. Two weeks ago, I went to Cebu to give a talk to Avon operators and entrepreneurs (who are expectedly mostly women). We had a very good session with their entrepreneurs as we encouraged them to be more enterprising and to keep the winning attitude. They adopted a theme “Believe to Succeed” which is very much aligned with the mantra that Go Negosyo is sharing around. (more…)

The son also shines

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

A couple of weeks ago I had a meeting with David Lim, together with Mon Lopez (our Executive Director in Go Negosyo). David is now the big boss of Solid Group, a company that was started by his mother Elena Lim.

Solid Group has been in the retail industry for more than 50 years, starting out as the exclusive distributor of Sony and has expanded into a big group that offers several electronic items like Sony and Aiwa. Mrs. Lim is also the partner of my mother in their waitekung exercise. Their group gathers very early in the morning in our village. Mrs. Lim is also in her 80s and still is very sharp. She was also a recipient of the “Yes the Filipino Can” award during RFM’s 50th Anniversary about three years ago at the NBC tent. (more…)
