Bagong Tunog

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

During the 90s, after buying Cosmos from the Wong family, we launched an ad campaign that led to the beginning of the success of Cosmos brands like Pop Cola and Sarsi. It was an ad campaign that also changed how advertising was done for consumer brands. “Bagong Tunog”
and “Bilib sila sa Pinoy” were campaigns hatched by Minong Ordonez and Nonoy Gallardo.

Noynoy’s style is new music to our ears, which is nice and simple. Although I still don’t think it would be practical for him to have no “wang wang”, his decision symbolizes that simplicity is a virtue that starts with government officials, specifically the president of the country. The Filipinos, or what I’d like to call the shareholders or stakeholders of Philippines Inc., are indeed the boss. Even Vice President Binay has apologized for the mistake of his security in violating a traffic light. The idea is simple and demonstrable. Cory did it for a while. But, after her government was hounded by so many coups, it became a security risk for her.

PNoy: The Change Agent Leader

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Everyone seems excited to see real change happen, especially in moral ascendancy, as the campaign platform of President Noynoy or PNoy is “labanan ang korupsyon”. PNoy delivered an impressive speech with a simple straightforward message during his inauguration. He even mentioned the removal of the wang-wangs or the use of sirens on the roads. Although, I don’t think it is practical for him as president to do so if he is to move around attending functions. On the other hand, if he does it to set an example, why not? I am sure PNoy is getting numerous messages and unsolicited advice from all the columnists. He will have an overload of advice. But, let us add to those by sharing with him and the public the advice of Go Negosyo advocates.

As I am fond of getting the views of my fellow entrepreneurs, I asked different negosyantes from different industries to share some of their ideas. How do they see President Noynoy changing this country? With the new administration, what changes do they expect in the country? What is their advice to President Noynoy?

The Philippines can be great

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

After writing a mushy column last week entitled “As we age”, I received quite a number of feedback, especially from women.

Quiet time for oneself can come in a form of retreat, prayer, meditation, or simple silence on a vacation away from work. This is the time to reflect on our accomplishments and to see the beauty of life, which we sometimes neglect when we are too focused on our negosyo. I guess Noynoy had to do this before accepting the challenge to run as president. He isolated himself in the convent that his mother visited when she was about to take on the role of leading this country.

We now have a new president assuming office for the next six years. We will continue to see the Aquino name in the headlines of every paper almost every day. We had Arroyo for the past nine years. Second to Marcos, she has the longest term. Both Arroyo and Aquino had parents who were presidents. They are second generation leaders who are given the chance to lead.
