Empowering those who have less and building an entrepreneurial culture to give a chance for all Filipinos to beat poverty and move up in life is our passion and mission. In our own small way, it is a privilege to share knowhow and information, which would not have been available, to the grassroots communities.
The other day, despite the long travel, we were fortunate to reach out to the communities around Boljoon, Cebu. We got to dialogue with over 500 farmers and micro entreps. Boljoon is a lovely community south of Cebu city, with heritage churches and sites, rich marine sanctuary and beautiful beaches and beside the town Oslob where popular whale sharks are. Ecotourism and farming are key industries in the area. We partnered with like minded Smart-Talk and Text which has a great campaign ‘Panalo ang May Alam’ to bring knowhow and information through free internet to all. This is also partnered with internet.org initiated by Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook which aims to provide connectivity to more and more people all over the world – thereby providing enabling tools they can use in their everyday lives and for their businesses.
Our Executive Director Mon Lopez shared the importance of having the right mindset and knowhow and key strategies on how they can be ‘smartpreneurs’. He also shared the many solid opportunities in ecotourism and agribusiness for their communities. Mon was joined by our Programs head Jap Uminga, together with Angelpreneur Victor Madlangbayan and agripreneur Brian Amante Belen of Ato Belen Farm who also shared how-to’s in product development and organic farming. Smart group was led by Nikko Galvez and Sharon Bejer.
Continuous learning, knowing what the market wants/needs, trends that can lead to big ideas and innovations are important in growing our businesses and our programs thus complement the campaign of Smart as they facilitate access to these information via free internet. It thus enables anyone even in the rural areas to be at par with the big guys when it comes to capabilities, knowhow and information. This to us is the greatest equalizer.
I remember Doy Vea, founder of Smart and one of long-time advocates of Go Negosyo, revealing to me a few years ago his vision to give internet access to all to empower everyone, when access then was limited to the privileged few who have computers and internet connection. He has long pursued this cause and I believe he is now seeing his dream come true as access is getting easier and easier with more affordable mobile phones, even priced at P2,000 or below, which can access the internet. Computers and laptops are no longer the only means to gain internet access.
Subscribers of Smart, Talk N Text and Sun can access very helpful sites such as search engine Bing, news sites, our media partners Rappler and Philstar, TESDA, OLX and even AccuWeather which is also a disaster response tool. The GoNegosyo website will also also be available in the coming months.
The bottom of the pyramid and rural folks are now empowered to pursue their dreams and goals.
As Go Negosyo celebrates its 10th year this year, we level-up our seminars and sessions with new programs such as the Building Enterprising Students for Tomorrow (BEST). We shall mount our 3rd session next week that will answer all the questions regarding “Money Matters” and will cover topics which include Entrepreneurship, Personal Finance, Investment Options and Tax 101. We are having Angelpreneurs Dean Pax Lapid, Armand Bengco, Mon Abrea and no other than the Chairman of Citisec Online (COL) Mr. Edward Lee. The BEST program is given free to the students of colleges and universities in the country.
We shall also conduct on May 25 our Magandang Business Advise (MBA) with the marketing guru Josiah Go who has continued to volunteer for our cause in helping micro SMEs level-up in marketing and innovation. Josiah has helped many SME’s for free as they are advised on how to improve on their business models.
Brother Philippines is now one of the partners of Go Negosyo! (In photo) L-R Ramon Lopez, Joey Concepcion, Brother Philippines Managing Director Glenn Hocson and Marketing Manager Lalaine Mesina.
Recently, we have welcomed a new partner to the Go Negosyo community. Brother Philippines headed by its Philippine Managing Director, Mr. Glenn Hocson. Marketing manager, Ms. Lalaine Mesina joined him in making Brother Philippines an enabler to many SMEs thru office equipment like multi-function printers, copiers and fax machines, and even negosyo tools like home sewing machines and labellers alike. I was pleased to learn that for some years now, Brother has been the market leader for sewing machines in the country. We are looking forward to this partnership and we are glad to have Brother Philippines on board.
