Last March 26, 28 active student and community leaders from Basilan were invited for the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship Foundation, Inc (Go Negosyo)- Basilan Young Leaders Interaction. The three-hour program featured four young entrepreneurs to share their inspiring story and journey to the fellows of the Basilan Young Leaders Program.
The Basilan Young Leaders Program (BYLP): The 28-day Challenge to LeadCom is an initiative of the Office of the Regional Governor (ORG-ARMM) that aims to engage, expose, equip, empower, immerse, inspire, and involve the next generation leaders of Basilan. The first BYLP will be a joint-program with the Ayala Foundation, Inc. and Eisenhower Fellows Association of the Philippines, entities that are committed to enabling development in different communities.
As part of their 28-day journey, Go Negosyo invited four young entrepreneurs namely: Mr. Brian Belen of Ato Belen’s Farm, Ms. Zarah Juan of Greenleaf Eco Bags, Mr. Kadee Aguila of Gayuma ni Maria, Mr. Enzo Pinga of Bahay Kubo Organics and Mr. Benedict Carandang of Tuldok Animation.
Before the entrepreneurs’ sharing started, Programs Development Manager of Go Negosyo Mr. John Paul Uminga briefy discussed about the organization primer.
Belen, who hails from a farming family shared his inspiring memories as he manages the farm and how the lives of the mothers in Calauan Resettlement were transformed by the enterprise.
Juan, founder of Greenleaf Eco Bags lifter the spirit of the fellows by telling them that poverty should not be a hindrance for them to dream for themselves and to dream for a better Basilan. She shared about her humble beginnings and working for her success and most importantly sharing that success to other people.
Aguila, the chef and the man behind the success of the love-themed restaurant in Katipunan, Gayuma ni Maria shared his inspiring insights to the young leaders.
Pinga, a staunch supporter of agriculture, talked about aquaponics, combining aquaculture and hydroponics to grow any bove-ground plant and at the same time freshwater fish.
Carandang, the last speaker played a 12-minute video presentations first before his sharing. He shared about importance of teamwork to be successful in his field.
Before the program ended, the fellows were encouraged to ask questions to the speakers through an open forum. Marking the end of the short program is the group photo of the inspired 28 Fellows of the Basilan Young Leaders Program.
